Introduction new blogger Mary-Lou

Finally, almost 3 weeks after I got the request to write a blog I have found the time to start….what can I say…it’s been busy!

So, now I will tell you everything we do at the Gaastra styling department! Well, not everything…..we have to keep some secrets……..;)

What have I been up to? Well, last week, I was shopping for inspiration in our home town Amsterdam (oh! the cold..). Tuesday I stopped & shopped in the wonderful city of Antwerp and on Friday I’ll fly to Paris to present the first set-up of the collection along with my colleagues to our French sales team. Maybe I am going too fast…

Let me start from the beginning.

At the moment, we are in the midst of working on the summer 2012 collection. We started around the beginning of this year by collecting inspiring images, pieces of clothing and details to get us started with the designs. It has been weeks of meeting each other by the printer, ordering take- out for the long nights sketching, piles of magazines bookmarked with post-its on my desk and too many meetings like usual….but it’s fun all working together as a team to make a brand new beautiful collection!

Some of us went abroad to visit the manufacturers while I stayed along here with my colleagues to arrange everything required for our collection presentation, such as preparing moodboards, colourcards and a presentation booklet.

For this coming summer, our Sports wear collection is inspired by a sailing trip on the North Atlantic, bringing us bright and summery colours for a real Caribbean feeling. For our more casual Breton collection we stay a bit closer to home, taking inspiration from Italian get aways for a more authentic nautical feeling. This area has to offer us such beautiful colours and inspiring heritage, I can promise you that it will be great!

Now the exciting part begins…the first samples are coming back from the manufacturers, and we are all so curious to see how they turned out! I will keep you posted!
